For that retro style and sweeping lines, this board is a fun alternative for almost any wave. A reverse vee bottom allows a smooth seamless transitions rail to rail despite its extra width, and pivots tight off the pin tail when sharp direction changes are necessary. It loves an open, carvable face on those mushy days, but fin placement and our refined performance rail give this board a remarkable reliability when it comes to hollow and critical waves. The reverse vee also gives the rider a smoother ride and more control in bumpy conditions. This board is surprisingly effortless and fast for its relatively bulky dimensions. None of the sliding and swivel of the twins of the 80s, the HP Twin is fast like its predecessor, but turns with more control and drive. If you want to skate around in small waves, go a little wider and thicker—but if you want an exotic high-speed blade for fast barrels and Mach 10 cutbacks, keep it closer to your normal dimensions. The bottom starts with a mild concave through the mid-section, and finishes with vee out the tail. This particular design is all of EA’s collected knowledge and experience boiled down into the pure and refined Hawaiian step up. No frills, no fat—it doesn’t even have a name. It is just the RP, shorthand for “rounded pin”. This came as guys were riding their step ups shorter and shorter in bigger waves. Slabs like Teahupoo and first reef Pipe were definitely an inspiration since surfers wanted to get in as early as possible, but did not want a really long rail line once they were navigating a square barrel. We essentially just cut down their favorite RP about 3-4 inches and redrew the front end. The natural result is a wider nose and lower entry rocker by subtraction of that last few inches. It also features a deck slightly flatter than the RP and a subtle beak nose. The design change was motivated by waves of consequence, but it turns out that paddle power is great in waves of no consequence as well. Cold water specialists also find a connection with this step up in big lineups akin to Sunset Beach. Whereas the RP is our rock-hard prize fighter with 0% body fat, the Stun Gun is our sleeper. It might look soft, but get it in the ring and it is anything but.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0571/8074/9897/files/Stun_Gun_74_1045499_DSC5940_f74ab95f-3b42-4c6f-8c6e-162d894320f5.png?v=1764968347
holy-moli
Holy Moli

Draw old school lines across little peelers or thread a hefty barrel with this modern hybrid design. This is our take on the modern mid-length. The foil and tail of this design reveals its pedigree in the tradition of Hawaiian rounded pins, but its length and outline gives it an advantage in small surf. Pure glide in small waves, clean carving lines, and big barrels — this model is made for it all. The design was conceived back in 2016 after Sean Arakawa had fallen in love with his 8’0 Avis that summer. He continued to ride the 8’0 funboard into our winter season on the North Shore. As he pushed it into larger waves, he found he wanted something as fun and effortless as the Avis, but with less board to swing around and an outline more tuned for barrels and waves with power. What resulted was the Holy Moli, drawing inspiration from the Hawaiian name for the seafaring Albatross and shear stoke. This board knows no bounds.
